Simy Nwankwo Reveals The Secret Behind His Form Post COVID-19 Break

The Super Eagles star finished as the top scorer in Italy’s second division which helped Crotone gain promotion back to the top-flight

Nigerian striker, Simy Nwankwo has revealed he tries to come alive at the business end of the season, and that’s the reason for his impressive form post coronavirus break.

Nwankwo played a massive role in Crotone’s promotion to the Italian Serie A, finishing as the top scorer in Serie B with 20 goals.

Seven of those goals came in July including a hat-trick against champions, Benevento. The goals eventually helped I Pitagorici finish in second place and secure promotion.

Speaking in an interview with ESPN, the 28-year-old revealed his secret is trying to stay consistent at the most important moments of the season.

“There’s always that important moment in every season,” Nwankwo said. What I try to do is to make sure I’m in the game, like try and be consistent.

“Of course, it’s not easy with the goals. Maybe you could be consistent with the performance, but sometimes the goal, you have one or two dark moments.

“But I try to arrive every time in the season at the most important part of the season,” he added.

Nwankwo and Crotone will hope to fare better when they make a return to the Italian top-flight next season. The Nigerian international was part of the Crotone team that played in the Serie A in the 2016/2017 and 2017/2018 season.
