The Nigerian forward is angry over false reports he aims to repeat the exploits of the Argentine legend
New Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has spared no punches as he goes after reports in the local media (not Soccernet.ng), which claims that the young striker granted an interview where he purportedly targeted following in the footsteps of Argentina hero Diego Maradona.
Maradona is undoubtedly Napoli’s greatest ever player, with the legendary midfielder inspiring I Partenopei to two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia and the UEFA Cup, scoring a total of 115 goals in 259 games.
That glorious feat ensured Maradona is still adored and accorded god-like status by Napoli fans to date.
Osimhen, who lost his father weeks ago, already has the burden of being Africa’s most expensive ever footballer hanging on his neck.
Adding the pressure of reenacting the exploits of arguably football’s greatest ever player to that, is what the former Lille star has refused to take lying low.
“I never said such a thing,” the 21-year-old lashed out on Twitter.
“Y’all copy paste journalist just like to fabricate lies, since the passing of my late father I haven’t grant any interview whatsoever, stop this nonsense else na thunder go fire una.”
Osimhen signed a five-year deal with Napoli last month, and the former Royal Charleroi ace will be wearing the number nine jersey for the Serie A club.
