Mutiu Adepoju’s Candid Advice To Napoli’s Victor Osimhen

The new Napoli star has the added burden of being Africa’s most expensive player in history, but the former international urges him to continue doing what brought him this far

1994 African Cup of Nations star Mutiu Adepoju has charged new Napoli buy Victor Osimhen to keep working hard and scoring goals as that is the secret to his success in Italy.

Osimhen completed his multi-million euros transfer from Ligue 1 side Lille to Napoli days ago. Still, he only watched the Serie A side’s 3-1 defeat to Barcelona in the Champions League on Saturday night.

The 21-year-old striker was not eligible to be fielded for the game at the Camp Nou because he was not a Napoli player when the first leg of the second-round clash was played on February 25.

Osimhen will be expected to pick up the goalscoring burden of Gennaro Gattuso’s side next season as they challenge for the Serie A title.

It’s a challenge the youngster is eagerly looking forward to after smashing home 38 goals in all competitions for both Royal Charleroi and Lille over the past couple of years.

And Nigeria’s La Liga ambassador, Adepoju, wants the youngster to focus on repaying the enormous investment made on him by the Italian club.

“It is a good move for him because I see it as a step higher for his career,” the former Racing Santander midfielder told the Premium Times.

“All I can just tell him is to keep working hard to justify the huge amount Napoli spent to sign him on.

“He should score more goals and show the stuff he is made up of. I’m just happy for him.”

Osimhen’s five-year deal he signed with Napoli will be rubber-stamped by FIFA when the Italian transfer window opens for business on September 1, 2020.
