Gattuso Calls For Patience After Osimhen’s Brilliant Debut For Napoli

The Nigerian international scored a hat-trick in his first game for Napoli, but Gattuso has called on the club fans not to put pressure on him

Napoli manager Genaro Gattuso has called on the club fans to be patient with Victor Osimhen despite impressing in his first match for the club.

It took less than a minute for Osimhen to open his account before scoring two more times to complete his hat-trick as Napoli thrashed L’Aquila 11-0

But despite his dream start, Gattuso speaking after the match says Osimhen should be given enough time to settle in Italy.

The former AC Milan star says fans should realise the Nigerian is neither Pele nor Messi, although he expects him to help their course.

‘It’s too easy to get excited now, we’ve got to give him time and let him work, not put pressure on,’ he told Sky Sport Italia via Football Italia.

‘It’s not like we suddenly signed Pele or Maradona, we simply brought in a player with certain characteristics that can help us.’

Although he called for calm, Gattuso, however, is confident Osimhen will be a success in Italy’s top-flight as long as he continues to put in the work.

“He’s a quality player with great ability. He knows what he can do and if he keeps on working hard he can have a big impact”.

Osimhen joined The Parthenopeans from Lille for a club and African record fee of 81.3 million euros including add-ons.
