Victor Osimhen, Josh Maja, and Emmanuel Dennis are three Super Eagles forwards regularly headlining major transfer news, but another Nigerian goal-getter could be switching clubs this summer to the delight of fans
Newly-promoted West Bromwich Albion have been linked with a move for Leicester City’s striker Kelechi Iheanacho, and many of the Baggies fans believe he is a perfect fit for their club.
West Brom finished second in the Championship to confirm their place in the English Premier League next season and are in the market for a seasoned goal-scorer who can help them retain their elite status at the end of the 2020-2021 campaign.
One of their top transfer targets, according to reports, is Super Eagles star Iheanacho who continues to play second fiddle to Leicester’s prolific marksman, Jamie Vardy.
Iheanacho, 23, only started 12 of the 20 league games he played for Brendan Rodgers’ side this term, but he still managed five goals and four assists.
The former Man City youngster also found the back of the net four times in five cup games to remind many of his goalscoring prowess.
But Vardy, who claimed the league’s golden boot award after smashing in 25 league goals for the Foxes, continues to stay ahead of Iheanacho as Leicester’s number nine.
This may be the right time for Iheanacho to try a fresh challenge with the likes of Aston Villa, Newcastle and West Brom all weighing up a bid for the former U-17 world champion.
Many West Brom fans are pleased that the Baggies are linked with the Nigerian, and they have taken to Twitter to urge the EPL newcomers to waste no time in bringing him to the Hawthorne.
Iheanacho joined Leicester from Manchester City two years ago for €27.7 million, but he is currently valued at N6.86 billion (€15m) as per transfermarkt.
