Steven Gerrard Reveals Why Rangers Signed Leon Balogun

Super Eagles star, Leon Balogun has left Brighton and Hove Albion permanently to sign for Scottish side, Rangers Football Club.

The 32-year-old signed a one year deal with the Gers, but Rangers have the option of extending it for another year.

Balogun spent the last six months on loan at Wigan from Brighton, although he could not save the Latics from relegation to League One due to the 12 point deduction they suffered after going into administration.

Following the completion of the Championship season, Balogun said on his Twitter account that he wouldn’t be extending his stay with the Latics, but he’ll be making a big announcement soon.

It has now been confirmed that the Nigerian international has joined Rangers. The Super Eagles star leaves Brighton permanently following a difficult two-year stay.

Speaking on why the club decided to bring in the Nigerian, Rangers manager, Steven Gerrard revealed Balogun’s experience was an important factor.

“I am pleased to secure the signature of Leon. He is an experienced centre half who will add strength and depth to our squad,” the former Liverpool captain told Rangers Website.

“His experience in the Premier League as well as his international pedigree strengthens our squad and will assist in the development of our young defenders.

“Leon has just finished a round of competitive fixtures with Wigan so will hit the ground running. He’s a positive and bright character, and we are looking forward to his influence around the group.”

Balogun’s move means he links up with fellow Super Eagles star Joe Aribo, who was one of Rangers best players last season.
