Mikel Obi Gives Difficult Condition For Trabzonspor Return

The iconic Nigerian midfielder left the Turkish side under acrimonious circumstances, but he has expressed the desire to forget all that has transpired and make a sensational return

John Obi Mikel has called on Trabzonspor President Ahmet Ağaoğlu to apologize for his actions that led to the Nigerian’s unceremonious departure in March if he wants him back in Trabzon.

John Obi Mikel left Trabzonspor days after the former Chelsea midfielder said on Instagram that he did not feel comfortable with top-flight games in Turkey being played despite the coronavirus pandemic.

COVID-19 had forced all the big five leagues in Europe – England, Spain, Germany, Italy, and France – as well as the Champions League and Europa League, to be suspended. However, Turkish league games were still being played behind closed doors.

In the aftermath of the unfriendly separation between Trabzonspor and Mikel, the former Super Eagles skipper confessed that leaving the Super Lig team had been “one of the hardest decisions” of his life.

But the 2013 AFCON winner has now opened the door for an incredible return to Turkey as an appreciation to Trabzonspor fans for their show of love but only if the club’s president apologizes first.

“I would love to return. I still get support messages from Trabzonspor fans even if there is a bitter cut when I want to go,” Mikel said in quotes carried by TrabzonHaber.

“They really made me feel good and valuable many times. But at least once I want to return, I would like to be called by President Ahmet Ağaoğlu. We can solve the problem. I’m waiting for an apology.”

Obi Mikel joined the Turkish side last year, had a contract until May 2021, and was enjoying another brilliant campaign before things turned sour.
