Leicester City Boss Reveals Transfer Plans Despite Iheanacho’s ‘Brilliance’

The Nigerian international has seen his stock risen remarkably this season after a turn-around in fortunes, but he may not have done enough to stop the club from making moves in the transfer market

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has strongly hinted that the clubs would be active during the transfer window despite acknowledging that Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been impressive this term.

Iheanacho only managed two goals across all competitions for the Foxes last season, a shocking return for a striker acquired from Manchester City for £25 million.

But the 23-year-old is back to his best form after scoring in both the 2-1 loss at Everton last week and the 3-0 defeat of Crystal Palace at the King Power Stadium over the weekend.

His two goals in his last two games bring his tally for this season to 10 goals and four assists in 22 appearances across all competitions.

That shows he has been an able deputy to the prolific Jamie Vardy, who notched his 100th and 101st Premier League goal in the comprehensive thrashing of the Eagles.

Yet when asked, during Monday’s pre-match press conference via Zoom call, if Iheanacho’s form would change transfer plans, Rodgers responded: “It’s something we’ll look at. Kelechi has done brilliantly. He needed confidence. As he’s gained that, you’ve seen his strengths. He’s scored goals.

“He loves his football. We are looking currently, because each season you want to improve.”

Leicester City next make the trip to the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday, July 7, to trade tackles with an in-form Arsenal side as the battle for the Champions League places heats up.
