Former Super Eagles striker Odion Ighalo made his 100th league appearance in English football, but he could not help Manchester United secure the vital three points in the Premier League clash against West Ham.
United went into the encounter, knowing a win is important in the race for Champions League football. They started on the front foot with Martial testing Lukasz Fabianski in West Ham goal.
However, it was the Hammers that took the lead against the run of play courtesy of a Michael Antonio spot-kick in the 45th minute after Paul Pogba had handled in the box.
But Solskjaer’s men drew level through a Mason Greenwood strike six minutes after half-time. The Red Devils pushed for a winner following the equalizer, but it was West Ham that went close through Jarrod Bowen.
But his strike was pushed over the bar by the under-pressure David De Gea. With time running out, United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer introduced Odion Ighalo five minutes from time.
The Nigerian should have won it with his first touch of the game following a low cross from Aaron Wan Bissaka. However, he could not hit the target, and United were left to rue the miss.
Although the point takes Solskjaer’s men up to third, they are just a point above Leicester City in fifth place and would need to avoid a defeat when the two sides face each other on the final day to make top four.
