It’s been an impressive year for Nigerian footballers in the Turkish top flight and efforts are in top gear to add to their swelling numbers
Super Eagles talented winger Samuel Kalu could soon be on his way to joining Super Lig winner Azubuike Okechukwu and Turkish Cup champion Anthony Nwakaeme in Turkey, as Fenerbahce are interested in his services.
Kalu, who presently is on the payroll of France’s Girondins Bordeaux, endured an underwhelming campaign this season in Ligue 1, where he managed only a goal and an assist in 20 games.
Injuries and disciplinary issues added to the 22-year-old’s woes yet more was still expected from an exciting winger who contributed to 26 goals (10 goals, 16 assists) in only 55 matches for former club KAA Gent.
A change of scenery may be what Kalu needs to get back to his best, and Fenerbahce, according to the TRT Spor as per Fanatik, have made contact with Bordeaux and are set to make an official offer for Kalu.
Kalu, who can play both on the right and left flank, joined Les Girondins two years ago for about 4 billion naira (€8.5 million).
A Nigeria international since 2018, Kalu, who is currently valued at N3 billion (€6.5 million, transfermarkt), is believed to be willing to quit Bordeaux and seek fresh opportunities away from France.
