Amuneke Speaks On Osimhen To Napoli, Chukwueze To Chelsea Links

The Super Eagles striker is not keen on a move to Italy despite meeting with Napoli manager and owner last week

2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning coach, Emmanuel Amuneke has urged Nigeria international Victor Osimhen to consider signing for Napoli as joining the Serie A side would afford him the chance to appear regularly in the UEFA Champions League.

The 21-year-old has not been short of suitors after an excellent maiden campaign for Lille, where he smashed in 18 goals in 38 games.

All appeared set for Osimhen to complete a €50 million switch to the Serie A, but a last-minute delay from the youngster has forced the Partonepei to issue him a ten-day take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum.

With the Serie A’s well-documented issues with racism, Osimhen reportedly favours staying put in France until offers come in from English Premier League or Spanish La Liga clubs.

But Osimhen’s former boss at the national youth team, Amuneke, has asked the exciting forward to jump at the chance to play for Gennaro Gattuso’s side.

“Osimhen going to Napoli is not a bad move,” Amuneke told Complete Sports.

“He’s a player that likes working hard, and I think Napoli will give him opportunity of playing in the UEFA Champions League.”

Osimhen’s former Golden Eaglets teammate Samuel Chukwueze is also building a solid reputation in Spain, where he is playing a crucial role in Villarreal’s chase for a Champions League ticket.

Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on the flying winger, but Amuneke would rather have him remain and continue his development with the Yellow Submarines.

“Chukwueze can fit in any team. He’s young, fast, and uses both legs effectively. Whichever club, but I believe he’s doing well at Villarreal at the moment,” Amuneke said.

Lille and Villarreal will play in the Europa League next season with Napoli likely to join them as they are set to miss out on Serie A’s top-four race.
