There’ve been a lot of brilliant strikes in the Bundesliga since its inception, but one goal is head and shoulders above the rest according to the former Borussia Dortmund manager
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has hailed the exceptional talents of former Super Eagles captain, Austin Jay-Jay Okocha.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager who also played for Mainz says Okocha scored the most spectacular goal in Bundesliga history, and he also believes some of football’s best talents are from Africa.
Okocha played in Germany for six years but his goal against ex-Germany goalkeeper, Oliver Khan, was the highlight of his career in the country.
In a clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and Karlsruhe in 1993, the former Bolton captain scored the goal of the season when he dribbled several players including Oliver Khan in Karlsruhe goal before firing into the back of the net.
The strike was also named goal of the year (1993), and in an interview in 2016, Oliver Khan joked he’s still feeling dizzy. Klopp also spoke of his admiration for the goal, calling it the best goal in German football’s history.
“He scored the most spectacular goal in the history of German football,” Klopp told the Guardian.
“It took like five minutes of Kahn and his defenders diving on the floor before he put the ball in the net! Some of the world’s best players have been from Africa.
“George Weah. Didier Drogba. Yaya Touré. In their generation, they were some of the best players, so why should we not sign them? It’s great.”
