Iwobi Admits He Needs To Deliver On His Potential

The Super Eagles star broke out at Arsenal in 2015 as a youngster, but he’s still yet to live up to the hype and has often been criticised for his inconsistency

Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi, believes it’s time to deliver on the promises he showed as a youngster while at Arsenal.

The Nigerian international, a nephew of Austin Jay-Jay Okocha, made his first-team debut for the Gunners in a League Cup tie against Sheffield Wednesday back in 2015.

He went on to score his first Premier League goal a few weeks later in a 2-0 win over Everton at the Goodison Park.

His performances against the Toffees drew praises from many quarters with many saying Iwobi will go on become a top player.

Although he made over 100 appearances for Arsenal, Iwobi did not really live up to expectation at the Emirates and was sold to Everton last summer.

A move to Merseyside was supposed to give him more freedom to express himself, but it’s been the same old story for the Nigerian as he has struggled for consistency.

Now 24, Iwobi believes he’s no longer a young prospect, and he needs to start delivering on his potential.

‘I’m no longer that young prospect, that young talent,’ he says. ‘I have to show why there was so much hype about me, Iwobi told Dailymail.

The only way you can do that is in games. I feel I’m at that time in my career when I need to start doing that. I need to up my stats a bit more, improve a bit more.

‘That will come. I’m looking forward to restarting the season so I can prove myself.’

Iwobi will have the chance to showcase his talents when Everton take on Liverpool at Goodison Park on Sunday Night.
