The Nigerian forward continues to increase his fan base every day with the legendary goalkeeper joining those singing the 30-year-old’s praise
Man United legend Peter Schmeichel has admitted to being left ‘confused’ when the club signed Odion Ighalo in January. Still, he is pleasantly surprised at how that particular signing has turned out.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer went into the winter transfer window in search of a striker after England international Marcus Rashford cupped an injury that was to keep him out of action for weeks.
The Old Trafford giants were linked with every top goal-scoring machine on the continent from Erlin Haaland to Edison Cavani. Still, they left many stunned when they settled for China-based Ighalo.
Not many gave the former Watford star a chance when he arrived in Manchester, but the 30-year-old striker has been excellent, netting four goals in eight appearances.
Ighalo’s brilliant performances have also seen him earn a contract extension until January 2021, and Schmeichel lauds how the striker has helped boost the morale of the United team.
“I think he’s been one for the most positive surprises ever,” the ex-Man City shot-stopper told the Express.
“First of all his personality around the club, he’s been a revelation around the club. Everybody has tagged on and liked him straight away.
“When you have that kind of personality, it changes the whole team. Someone who brings a laugh into the dressing room, rather than coming in grumpy or not saying anything.
“It changes the dynamics. And what he’s done on the pitch, that really has surprised me.
“I was kind of confused…because it was last day, and it looked as if they were just needing and looking to bring someone in.
“But that’s not the truth. And what he’s done is just fantastic.”
