Ighalo And Manchester United Get Europa League Dates

The competition has been on suspension since March due to the coronavirus, but Europe’s second club competition is set for a restart following UEFA’s announcement.

When Odion Ighalo scored twice in United’s 5-0 win over LASK in the first leg of their last 16 Europa League encounter, there were doubts as to whether the second leg will be played as football went on a break immediately due to the coronavirus.

However, three months after the competition was suspended, UEFA have announced restart plans although in a different format.

Europe’s football governing body revealed today that the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the final of the 2019/2020 Europa League season would be played across four different cities in Germany.

According to UEFA, the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be a one leg tie, and it will be played between August 10-11 and August 16-11 respectively.

It was also announced that Sevilla’s round of 16 clash against Roma and Getafe’s match against Inter Milan would be a single leg affair at a venue that’ll be announced later.

However, the association is still undecided whether the second leg of the other last 16 games, including United’s games against LASK will take place at the home team’s stadium or in Germany.

Nevertheless, the final of the competition will now hold on August 21 in Cologne, while Gdańsk Stadium, the initial host of this year final will host the competition’s showpiece in 2021.
