Ighalo Admits He Was Worried About His United Future

The Nigerian’s dream at Old Trafford appeared to be over when the Coronavirus pandemic put the football season on hold

Odion Ighalo has admitted that he was worried about his future at Manchester United before the club agreed a deal with Shanghai Shenhua to extend his loan deal.

Ighalo joined United from the Chinese club in January on an initial loan deal that should’ve kept him till the end of May.

But the Novel Covid-19 virus outbreak forced the football season to be suspended in March, and there were fears Ighalo had played his last game for United then.

The former Super Eagles star was enjoying his childhood dream at Old Trafford having scored four goals in just eight appearances for the club.

However, it appears the dream will be shortlived when it was revealed Shanghai want Ighalo back at the end of his loan deal even though United were interested in keeping him for a more extended period.

The Chinese side will later change their position, which allowed United to agreed a deal to keep Ighalo for another seven months.

While the deal has been made official, Ighalo admitted he was worried it won’t happen and has now thanked for agreeing to his wish.

“I was very worried it wasn’t going to happen,” Ighalo told Sky Sports.

“Shanghai wanted me to return because they know what I can do, and they believe in me, so it was a bit difficult. But I want to thank them for agreeing to my wish to stay at Manchester United. I want to thank the manager Ole (Gunnar Solskjaer) for pushing as well.
