Super Eagles midfielder, Eghenekaro Etebo said he his enjoying his loan spell at Spanish La Liga side, Getafe, and he will be willing to make the deal permanent if everything goes according to plan.
Etebo is on loan at the Spanish side from Championship outfit, Stoke City. He joined Getafe in the January transfer window after finding it difficult to nail down a first-team place with the Potters.
The former Warri Wolves midfielder joined Stoke City just before the start of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, and he enjoyed a fruitful first season in the championship.
He was one of Stoke City’s best players. He scored two goals in 37 appearances as the club finished 16th in the championship.
However, he struggled with injuries this season and was limited to just 11 appearances in the first half of the campaign.
Hoping to get his career back on track, Etebo joined Getafe on loan in January and has made seven appearances.
The Super Eagles star now hopes he could stay with the Azulones permanently, especially with Getafe on course for a place in the Europa League.
They currently sit in the fifth position, a point shy of the final champions league slot, and the lure of European football will be too much to turn down for the former Feirense midfielder.
“Since I arrived here (Getafe ), it has been fun, and I love the challenge here,” Etebo told The Punch.
“I don’t mind staying here permanently. We are in a good position and also closer to playing in Europe next season if all go according to plan.
“I had a chance to join Getafe last summer, but the sports director at Stoke wanted me to stay at the club for another season. However, after the Africa Cup of Nations, I wasn’t playing, and it was difficult to accept that at that time.
“So when Getafe renewed interest, I insisted that I wanted to leave and my wish was granted,” Etebo added.
