Shanghai or Manchester: Ighalo’s Contract Situation Set To Have A Solution

The ex-Super Eagles star’s loan deal at Old Trafford expires today (May 31st), but the Red Devils are hoping a deal can be agreed with his parent club

Odion Ighalo’s dream at Manchester United is set to continue after reports emerged that the club are close to reaching an agreement with Shanghai Shenhua to extend his loan.

According to Skysports, United are currently close to negotiating a new deal that will see the former Watford man stay at Old Trafford until January.

Ighalo joined United in a deadline day loan move in January, and it was supposed to expire at the end of May.

However, the coronavirus outbreak has caused massive disruptions to the football season with the Premier League set to end in July following a three months break.

While United will love to have Ighalo until the end of the season, Shanghai also want Ighalo back for the start of Chinese Super League season, and will not agree to a loan extension.

However, according to Skysports, the Chinese side have now changed their stance as border restrictions in China means Ighalo return in time for the new season.

As a result, Shanghai have softened their position, and Ighalo is set to stay at Old Trafford for another six months.

Should Ighalo stay at United till January, he will miss a majority of the new Chinese Super League season.

Ighalo’s current contract expires in two years, but Shanghai reportedly wants to offer him a new deal that will keep him at the club till 2024.
