Reports: Rohr To Continue As Super Eagles Coach Till 2022

The Franco-German tactician has reportedly inked a contract extension that will keep him in charge of the Nigerian national football team until after the next World Cup in Qatar.

According to reports from TheCable, former Bordeaux manager Gernot Rohr has confirmed that he will continue in his role as the Technical Adviser of the Super Eagles after extending his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation.

His previous contract was set to expire at the end of June. However, he has signed a new deal which will keep him at his post for another two and a half years.

Rohr was hired in August 2016 and was handed a two-year extension in 2018 after successfully guiding the three-time African champions to the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Nigeria, though could not make it past the group stages of the tournament after losing two games (to Croatia and Argentina) and claiming victory in the other tie against Iceland.

The former Gabon coach then helped Nigeria qualify for and win the bronze medal at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt, meeting the semi-final target set by his bosses at the NFF.

Despite stringent conditions embedded in his new contract, Rohr is delighted he can continue the job he started four years ago.

“Yes, I can confirm that we found an agreement with NFF to continue our collaboration for two and a half year,” the former Gabon coach told TheCable (via SaharaReporters.

“I am proud of the confidence shown by NFF; it is rare to work in the same national team for more than six years.

He continued, “Our team has a good future, our players have discipline, and the staff is working in the same spirit.

“Yes, we want to go to the next AFCON and do very well there. And we want to start the World Cup qualifiers well and participate in Qatar with good results there.

“I am happy to continue with the squad we built together since four years. Stability is important for progress and complicity.

“There is still a big work to do. With the commitment of the players and the support of the fans, we will able to do great things.”
