Former Super Striker, Obafemi Martins is currently training with Shanghai Shenhua in a bid to get a permanent deal at the Chinese club.
The 35-year-old started training with Shanghai Shenhua in February, and it was reported in some sections of the Chinese media that the former Newcastle striker was on the verge of replacing Odion Ighalo, who joined Manchester United on loan from the Chinese outfit.
Ighalo will play a vital role if Martins is to be offered a deal by Shenhua, because the loan deal between Manchester United and Shenhua ends on May 31.
If Manchester United decides to offer Ighalo a permanent deal, Obafemi Martins will be the first choice replacement for the former Watford striker.
Shanghai Shenhua hierarchy are waiting on Manchester United before deciding on what to do with Martins, who has been impressive in the friendly matches he has played for the club, scoring twice in three games.
It should be recalled that Martins was on the books of Shanghai Shenhua from 2016 to 2018 before he sustained a knee injury which ruled him out for six months, he was released in June 2018.
Martins said he is working hard and also waiting on Shanghai Shenhua to determine his next step.
“I am still working hard to see what happens next,” Martins was quoted as saying by Sports Sohu.
“I’m very excited to come back here, and I am very happy to be able to score goals to help the team. This game helped me adjust my state and recover to the best.”
Martins scored 32 goals and recorded nine assists in his first stint with Shanghai Shenhua.
