I Was A Manchester United Fan Before Joining Chelsea -Super Eagles Star

Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo has disclosed that he was a Manchester United fan before he signed for Chelsea.

The Leganes defender joined Chelsea from Standard Liege in January 2012. He joined the Stamford Bridge side as a rookie with the hopes of playing for the first team, but he was immediately loaned out to Dutch league outfit, Ado Den Haag.

The 26-year-old spent a season at Ado Den Haag before sealing another loan move to Middlesbrough. He continued his journey away from Stamford Bridge with yet another move to Turkey, where he played for the likes of Kasimpasa, Alanyaspor and Leganes.

Omeruo never made a single appearance for Chelsea’s first team, and he brought his time at the London club to an end when he joined Leganes permanently in 2019.

Omeruo confessed his love for Manchester United while growing up, but he switched allegiance to Chelsea, and he is still a Chelsea fan.

“I was supporting Manchester United growing up. After I got signed by Chelsea, everything was Chelsea, up till now it is still Chelsea,” Omeruo told Eagles Tracker.

“It was great signing for Chelsea because it came as a surprise, I never believed it could happen, but at the end of the day it happened, I was so happy.

“Unfortunately I had to go on loan because of work permit, so I went to ADO Den Haag where I got playing time until I was called back by Chelsea.”

He has enjoyed regular playing time since moving to  Spain. Omeruo made his Super Eagles debut against Cape Verde in 2013 at the age of 19, and he played a crucial role in Nigeria’s 2013 Afcon glory.
