Former Premier League Star Says Leaving Liverpool Fantastic For Youngster Sheyi Ojo

Former Leeds United striker Noel Whelan has urged Sheyi Ojo to seek a permanent move away from Liverpool to another club where he would be guaranteed regular, competitive football.

Ojo joined Liverpool as a 14-year-old, came through their academy, and signed a professional contract with the Reds in 2014, but he has already been shipped out on loan to five different clubs in England, France, and Scotland.

The young winger spent the last season on loan at Rangers, where he found the back of the net five times and assisted seven in 36 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side.

But the 22-year-old is expected to return to Anfield this summer, having failed to impress during his season-long loan spell with the Gers.

Ex-Middlesborough striker Whelan believes that Ojo has the talent to make it on the big stage. Still, the England youth international needs to leave Liverpool on a permanent deal to fulfil his potential, according to the one-time Coventry City star.

“When players have been here, there and everywhere out on loan, it can be very unsettling,” Whelan told Football Insider.

“It is disappointing when you cannot break into a first-team, but it is probably more unsettling chopping and changing clubs regularly.

“Now he is at that stage of his career and life that he needs to have three good years at a club – make a name for himself.

“There is definite talent there, but he needs to be playing regular, competitive football. He needs that fitness and belief back.

“A permanent move? That would be fantastic for him.”
