The Everton playmaker has made 40 appearances for Nigeria since his debut five years ago but has faced no tougher foe than the South American giants.
Alex Iwobi picked the Super Eagles’ international friendly tie late last year against Brazil as the most challenging match he has played in for the three-time African champions.
Iwobi, who represented the 2013 AFCON winners at the 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2019 African Cup of Nations, has also helped Nigeria claim a friendly victory over Argentina and pulled a decent stalemate versus England at Wembley.
But none of those games was as tasking as the encounter against a Neymar-inspired Brazil in October 2019 due to the unfavourable weather conditions and quality of the coach Tite-led players, confessed the former Arsenal star.
“I try to give a hundred per cent as much as I can if it is not meant to be it is not meant to be, but the most difficult was the recent game against Brazil,” Iwobi said in an Instagram Live.
“Normally we have a lot of possession of the ball because we have a lot of footballing players that are able to keep the ball.
“Where we didn’t have the ball as much as we would have liked and playing in conditions in Singapore where it was so hot, and we were playing against class players, it was difficult.
“It’s almost like it was entirely defence and we were trying to hit them on the counter-attack.”
Rangers midfielder Joe Aribo netted the opener for coach Gernot Rohr’s side in Singapore before Real Madrid’s Casemiro equalized for the five-time world champions, as the match ended in a score draw.
