26-year-old Sebastian Osigwe is arguably Nigeria’s most consistent goalkeeper in Europe for the last five years, but he’s yet to earn an invitation to the national team.
Despite being eligible to play for Switzerland, SC Kriens shot-stopper, Osigwe, has revealed that he has maintained contact with key Super Eagles personnel towards fulfilling his dream of playing for the three-time African champions.
Born to a Swiss mother and a Nigerian father, Osigwe had a brief stint with the Flying Eagles of Nigeria during preparation for the U-20 World Cup in Turkey.
That team also had the likes of Jamilu Collins, Semi Ajayi, Wilfred Ndidi and Moses Simon who have all gone on to play competitively for the Super Eagles.
Osigwe, however, did not make the final squad to the tournament, but now feels more matured to fight for a place in the senior national team.
Confessing that he has stayed in contact with Super Eagles goalkeeper coach Alloy Agu and a few of his other teammates, the Luzern-born keeper is preparing to grab his chance with both hands when it arrives.
“I am still in contact with some players as well as the goalkeeper coach Alloy Agu, but it is not about football,” Osigwe said in an Instagram conversation with Eagles Tracker.
“I think we have a good scouting department. The Nigeria Football Federation is doing the right job.
“The best players should be there, for this moment the best players are there.
“I am just trying to continue to do well at my clubside, and if the invitation comes, I’ll be so proud and take it. That would come by God’s grace.”
