The end of the long-drawn cold war between the football body and the Franco-German tactician may finally be in sight as the long-awaited contract is ready for the coach to sign.
Super Eagles’ Media Officer, Toyin Ibitoye, has expressed that there are no secret plans by the Nigeria Football Federation to replace Gernot Rohr. He also confirmed that the new contract for the Super Eagles head coach has been drawn up and sent to the gaffer.
Rohr’s contract is set to expire in two months, but the former Gabon coach has acknowledged several times that he would be willing to continue in the position he assumed almost four years ago.
And despite Rohr recording significant success with the national team, including guiding the Super Eagles to a third-place finish at last year’s AFCON, the NFF insisted that Rohr must agree to some new agreements before earning a new deal.
The issue generated speculations that the football body was looking to force Rohr out of his post with unreasonable demands.
But in a chat with The Guardian, Ibitoye debunked those rumours while revealing that new terms had been sent to the coach for his signature.
“The NFF has not declared Gernot Rohr’s position vacant. I don’t know where the news that different coaches have been contacted by the NFF to coach the Super Eagles is coming from,” he said.
“Rohr’s contract as the Super Eagles coach is still on till June, and the NFF has sent him a new contract guidelines to sign.
“I believe at the end of the day, everything will be sorted out by both parties because Rohr is still interested in coaching the Super Eagles.
“If there is any issue that emanates from the contract, the NFF will issue an official information on that to the media. Rohr is still in charge of the Super Eagles, and he is in a cordial relationship with the NFF,” he concluded.
