Nigeria Forward Ideye Gives Summer Transfer Update Amidst Rumours Of A Return To England

A decent season is attracting attention from England towards Brown Ideye, but the Aris striker is placing family over a better pay package.

2013 African Cup of Nations-winning striker Ideye has revealed that he and his family are happy in Aris Saloniki, and he will readily shun offers from other clubs in the summer if the Greek side wants him to stay.

The 31-year-old is immensely grateful to Aris, the club that handed him a chance to revive his dwindling career when he was without a club last year.

Ideye was rendered unemployed for about seven months after his contract at Chinese Super League club Tianjin Teda expired in December 2018.

But the Yellow-Blacks took a gamble on Ideye and handed the former West Brom ace a one-season contract for an annual fee of a mere €500,000.

Ideye has largely repaid much of that trust with the former Malaga forward netting nine goals in 26 appearances for the Michael Oenning-tutored side.

Nottingham Forest tops the list of clubs hoping to bring the Nigerian back to England, but Ideye maintains that financial considerations will not play a role before he decides whether or not to extend his contract with Aris Thessaloniki.

In quotes carried by Gazzetta Greece, Ideye, whose contract is set to run out in the coming weeks, said: “I’m not thinking about making more money. I had better proposals, and I turned them down to come to Aris. I am interested in the environment, to be happy, me and my family.

“Aris is a team that every player wants to play, and I am happy to be a member. Everything is wonderful here.

“It will be up to the president to decide whether or not to stay. If I stay, I will be happy because I like a lot of things here.”
