No African country has ever won the world cup with just Cameroon, Ghana and Senegal going as far as the quarter-finals.
However, Villarreal star, Samuel Chukwueze, believes this current crop of Super Eagles have what it takes to win the biggest football competition on earth.
The Super Eagles have represented Africa at the biggest showpiece on earth six times- the second-highest number of appearances after Cameroon (7).
But despite their pedigree, the Super Eagles best showing at the world is the second round. Nigeria reached the second round in their world cup debut appearance at USA 1994, losing to Italy.
They repeat the same feat at France 98 where they were knocked out by Denmark. Subsequent appearances in 2002 and 2010 saw a first-round exit, but they did reach the second round in 2014, losing to France.
The most recent world cup saw Gernot Rohr’s men crashed out in the group stages at Russia. However, despite their previous failures, the current Super Eagles squad will win the world cup according to Chukwueze.
The Villarreal star is one of the golden boys in a young Super Eagles squad says he wants to win the biggest sporting prize on earth with Nigeria.
Speaking in an Instagram live session with Eaglestracker, the Chelsea and Liverpool target said; “I want to win the world cup with the Super Eagles” I believe in this team and in this generation.
“I think we will do better in the world cup and I think we will carry it,” Chukwueze added.
