The German tactician is approaching the end of his current deal, but Manchester United star, Odion Ighalo, says he is the right man for the Super Eagles.
Former Nigeria international, Odion Ighalo, has praised the work Gernot Rohr is doing as the Super Eagles manager.
The former Bordeaux manager has been in charge of the Nigerian national team since 2016 with his current contract set to end in June.
In his time as Super Eagles manager, Nigeria qualified for the 2018 World Cup and 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with a game to spare.
The 66-year-old also led Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2019 AFCON in Egypt. Since he was appointed, players born abroad but of Nigerian origin have committed their international futures to Nigeria.
He has been able to create a team that has a blend of both youth and experience. However, despite his achievements, he has been criticised for his approach to games, while he is also currently in a contract tussle with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
But a former Nigeria international who played under Rohr until his retirement, Odion Ighalo, insists the German has done well, and his style should not matter.
Ighalo who retired from international football last year revealed Rohr is like a father figure to him and he was the one who convinced him to continue after the 2018 World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with ElegbeteTV, Ighalo said: “Rohr is like a father. He brings stability, calmness to the team.
“Personally, Rohr made me return to the national team after the WC saga. “Some people say he’s old fashioned but as long as he’s getting results, who cares?! “For me, he’s doing well, Ighalo added.”
