Has Liverpool fate been decided?

It is no longer news that the recent outbreak of the Coronavirus Pandemic has led to the indefinite pausing of European Leagues for easy curtailment of the virus and to reduce the spread.

Current Premier League leaders Liverpool are one of the worst-hit teams in Europe by this activity as it began just after their winning streak was ended by Watford in the League and they were dumped out of the UEFA Champions League by Atletico Madrid.

Now the reds are fazed with a possible dilemma of not being handed the title despite being comfortably at the summit of the English Premier League as people predicted on Betway.

Liverpool are currently top of the English League with a massive 25-point lead over closest rivals Manchester City with just nine games left to play.

With City having a game in hand, Liverpool needs just two more wins to mathematically be crowned Champions of England for the first time in 30 years, however, with the League suspended indefinitely, there have been arguments on how it should be decided.

Some would hand Liverpool the glorious title not just because it’s crazily unlikely for Man City to come back from a 25-point deficit, but also because they’ve been the best team in the League by a wide margin.

However, this is countered by folks who think Liverpool are not champions yet mathematically and therefore should not be handed the title.

Some people in this group think it’s best for the League season to be cancelled just like the Eredivisie with no winner, while some say the rest of the games should be played later, but behind closed doors.

Every possible decision to be made by the English FA comes with advantages to some teams and disadvantages to others.

Therefore, it’ll be more acceptable if the League be decided as fairly as possible. This means that the best solution will be to keep the League postponed indefinitely and then when things are better, games should be played behind closed doors as swiftly as possible to put the League season to an end very early.

This still logically points to Liverpool being crowned Champions at the end because it’s very likely they manage at least six points from a possible 27. This leads us to the question “should Liverpool be handed the title if things don’t happen this way?”

The virus still spreads, vaccine and a cure have not been discovered, so the League returning soon is under huge probability. If the League doesn’t return as proposed, I think Liverpool being crowned Champions is not the most accurate thing to do, but it will be the most moral thing to do.

This means The Reds should be handed the title but only if the other teams agree to it. Truth be told, this looks far from happening because Liverpool being given the title will mean the League season isn’t void, this will mean teams currently in the relegation zone will be relegated to the lower division. In contrast, teams out of European zones will not feature in next season’s Champions League and Europa League campaigns, a situation no team would want to agree to.

Voiding the League is possible, but this will hurt Liverpool to an irreversible extent as they’ll be denied their first title in 30 years after playing one of the best football ever witnessed in English football history.

And as former Reds midfielder Ray Houghton said, Liverpool will prefer to win the title on the pitch rather than by default so the best possible outcome will be the continuation of the campaign.

However, if this doesn’t happen soon, the FA will have to make a decision. What do you think should happen?
