Enyeama Says He Was The Best Goalkeeper At The 2010 World Cup

Despite featuring in just three matches, former Nigeria international Vincent Enyeama says he was the best goalkeeper at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

The Super Eagles were drawn in Group B alongside Argentina, South Korea and Greece but failed to progress to the second round.

Lars Lagerback’s men opened their campaign with a 1-0 loss to Argentina before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Greece in the second group game.

They bowed out disappointingly at Africa’s first World Cup with a 2-2 draw against South Korea. It was a disappointing performance, but things could have been worse if not for the impressive performance from Vincent Enyeama.

The former Lille shot-stopper saved Nigeria from an embarrassing defeat in all games, but it was his performance against Argentina that stood out.

Although Nigeria lost by just a goal courtesy of a Gabriel Heinze header in the sixth minute, Enyeama’s performance was the reason for that respectable scoreline.

The former Super Eagles captain thwarted Argentina’s attackers particularly Lionel Messi by making saves after saves.

Speaking on the encounter, Enyeama revealed his performance at Ellis Park that afternoon makes him the world best goalkeeper around that time.

In an Instagram live session with Eaglestracker, the 37-year-old says he was the best shot-stopper as at that time because he denied Lionel Messi, who was the world’s best player.

“If I can stop Lionel Messi, who is the best player on the planet around that time in 2010 from scoring, that makes me the world best shot-stopper too around that time, Enyeama said “
