Enyeama Reveals How He Was Able To Stop Messi In 2010

The former Super Eagles goalkeeper says Nigeria’s clash against Argentina at the 2010 World Cup is one of his memorable matches despite being on the losing side.

Vincent Enyeama produced one of the best individual performances in a World Cup match by denying Messi and his teammates in 2010.

La Albiceleste defeated the Super Eagles 1-0 in the Group B clash of the 2010 World cup between the two sides.

A Gabriel Heinze header in the sixth minute sealed the win for Diego Maradona’s men, but it could have been more if not for the heroics of Nigeria’s goalkeeper, Vincent Enyeama.

The two-time world champions created 15 chances in that game, but they were denied by the immovable object in the person of Vincent Enyeama, who dealt with everything that was thrown at him.

Barcelona star Lionel Messi was Argentina’s major threat that day, but it was Enyeama that came out on top in the battle between the two.

Speaking on how he was able to deny Messi, the former Lille goalkeeper revealed he had been watching Messi’s previous games.

In an interview with Eagles tracker on Instagram, the 37-year-old said: “I didn’t expect them to have that many chances against us.”

But I had watched 15 of Messi’s previous league games, so I knew what he was capable of in all situations. “I still look back at that game & love the memories.”
