Young Nigerian goaltender Maduka Okoye is open to moving away from Bundesliga side Fortuna Dusseldorf despite the club promoting him from the B-team to the senior team.
Okoye, 20, was only fully promoted to Fortuna Düsseldorf II in 2018 from the club’s youth side, and the youngster’s fortunes changed even for better after making his international debut for the Super Eagles last year.
Head coach Gernot Rohr handed the player born to a Nigerian father and a German mother his Super Eagles bow in a friendly match against Brazil.
Shortly after, the young goalkeeper was promoted to Fortuna Dusseldorf’s senior team, albeit as the third-choice gloves.
While Okoye is pleased that his hard work has effected his positive change of fortunes, he is, however, not satisfied with his lack of playing time.
He maintains that should the situation stays the same until the summer, there is a possibility he may entertain offers from other clubs.
“It feels good when one’s hard work is recognized, and I am delighted to have been upgraded to the first team,” Okoye told AOIFootball.
“But I want more than sitting on the bench as a reserve goalkeeper, though I know my chance will come but, I really feel I want more, and if I get it elsewhere, I will give it a chance,” Okoye revealed.
