RMC’s Greatest Dribbler In History: Zidane Floors Jay Jay Okocha

French hero and three-time FIFA World Player of the Year Zinedine Zidane has edged past former Super Eagles midfield maestro Austin Okocha in the Round of 32 stage of RMC Sports’ hunt for football’s top dribbling genius.

77% of the voting public on the microblogging site, Twitter, has picked Real Madrid manager Zidane as a better dribbler than Nigeria legend Jay-Jay Okocha. The former Paris St. Germaine ace only scored 23% of the votes cast.

So good they named him twice, Jay Jay Okocha is often regarded as one of the best African players in history. He is, however, now out of the running for the top spot in the soon-to-be-released RMC’s football-focused film tagged ‘Dribbleurs’ later this month.

At his peak, the former BBC African Footballer of the Year was a scorer of great goals, and there were few better with the ball at feet.

But fans have decided that Zidane, the 1998 Ballon d’Or winner and hero of France 1998 FIFA World Cup triumph, was better at creating magic with a football.

Earlier decided is the tie between ex-Barcelona ace Ronaldinho and Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech, with the Brazilian legend claiming 90% of the votes.

Dutchman Arjen Robben has also floored Juventus attacker Douglas Costa.

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff sent Senegal’s Sadio Mane to the cleaners.

In recent polls, Argentina genius, Diego Maradona was picked ahead of iconic Brazilian Garrincha, while Lionel Messi also despatched former Gunner Dennis Bergkamp.

PSG’s Neymar got the better of Englishman Dele Alli just as Cristiano Ronaldo blasted Rivaldo out of the contest.

The ouster of Okocha and Mane leaves Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez as the only African through to the next phase of the race, with the Algerian trickster knocking out the great George Best.

Egypt’s Mohamed Salah will face legendary Brazilian forward Ronaldo in the last face-off of the first round.
