Nigeria, Netherlands Set To Battle For Bayern Munich’s Wonderkid, Joshua Orobosa

The teenage forward is blossoming well at the Bundesliga giants, and that may soon start a battle for his allegiance between the two countries.

Joshua Orobosa Zirkzee has been one of the revelations of the season at Bayern Munich, with the 18-year-old striker finding the back of the net with the regularity of a veteran.

But the talented youngster may yet find himself at the centre of a battle for his attention between three-time African champions Nigeria and European powerhouse Netherlands.

Zirkzee is of Dutch nationality, but he has Nigerian origins. His middle name, Orobosa, suggests he is from Benin, in Southern Nigeria. This makes him eligible to defend the colours of the 2013 African champions.

However, having starred for the Dutch at different youth levels, the youngster may be more inclined to feature at the senior level for Orange.

But Nigeria have expectedly refused to ignore a player who has netted three goals in just four league games for the German champions.

His latest strike arrived in the 6-0 deposition of Hoffenheim at the weekend, a game in which Polish hotshot Robert Lewandowski missed through injury.

The Netherlands youth international’s performances may have convinced Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr, that the lad is good enough to play for Nigeria’s senior football team.

According to France Football via Goal, the Nigerian Football Federation may have kicked off plans to try to convince the young prodigy to play in the green-white colours.

The Super Eagles, though, currently boast a healthy bunch of talented attackers such as Lille’s Victor Osimhen, Leicester City’s Kelechi Iheanacho, Bordeaux’s Josh Maja, Club Brugge’s Emmanuel Dennis, with Heracles goal-king, Cyriel Dessers likely to join the group later this month.

  • While trying to convince foren born quality players to play for us, it should be done quietely without unecesary nois and those who are too quick to post unconfirmed news in the internet need to be more matured and petroitic while doing their busness.

  • Orobosa is a Benin name. While I commend your efforts, always try to verify your "facts" and avoid sensational journalism or reporting old "news".
