I Hope Chelsea Regret Letting Me Leave – Nigerian Star

Nigeria international, Kenneth Omeruo, served the Londoners for seven years without making a single appearance for the first team, and he still feels the hurt of an unfulfilling time spent there.

Leganes defender, Omeruo, 25, has expressed a determination to proceed in his career to achieve great feats so that his former employers, Chelsea, can regret the way they treated him.

The 26-year-old joined Chelsea in 2012 from Standard Liege after showing immense potential as Nigeria’s Under-20 team reached the quarter-finals of the 2011 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Colombia.

The following year, a 19-year-old Omeruo achieved international success with the Super Eagles, playing a pivotal role as Nigeria romped to a third continental triumph in South Africa.

Still, he was never given a chance to make the breakthrough into the first team at Stamford Bridge.

And after several loan stints with ADO Den Haag in the Netherlands and Middlesbrough in England, as well as Kasımpasa and Alanyaspor in Turkey, the tough-tackling defender made a permanent switch to La Liga in the summer.

Despite finding a new home at Leganes, the 2019 Afcon bronze medalist sharply responded when asked if he thinks Chelsea regrets selling him.

“I hope so. I want them (Chelsea) to really regret it, I didn’t have the chance to play, but it was a good experience to play in another league,” Omeruo told Hora Blanquiazul in quotes carried by Somoslega.

Omeruo and relegation-threatened Leganes secured an excellent 2-1 win at Samuel Chukwueze’s Villarreal at the weekend to boost their survival chances in the Spanish Primera Division.
