Ex-Liverpool Striker Reveals Why Leicester City Can’t Rely On ‘Brilliant’ Iheanacho

Question marks remain over the ability of the Nigerian forward to lead the Foxes’ frontline, says former England international Emile Heskey.

Leicester City hero Heskey has advised Foxes boss, Brendan Rodgers, not to rely on Kelechi Iheanancho as his replacement for the ageing Jamie Vardy if the Premier League highfliers are to have a crack at the title next season.

The championship this term is all but decided with Liverpool leading the pace with a 25-point advantage over second-placed Manchester City.

Leicester City sit further down in third, but for a while, the Foxes looked like they would offer a stiffer challenge for Liverpool’s title dream.

But their hopes have faded in recent times with the untimely loss of form of Rodgers’ men coinciding with Vardy’s goalscoring drought.

The Englishman failed to find the back of the net in eight consecutive league games before his double against Aston Villa before the Premier League’s suspension.

Iheanacho has chipped in with three goals and three assists in just seven league starts, but it has only helped the Foxes to one win in their last five league games.

Heskey is aware of the Super Eagles striker’s brilliance, but he laments that the former Man City man lacks the consistency to bang in the goals all year round.

He has, however, called on his old side to make signing another attacker a priority if they are to stay in the top six with the league’s big boys.

“They’ll need to add a couple of players though, especially a forward – (Jamie) Vardy is 33 years old now, and he’s still the main figure in terms of goals,” Heskey told GentingBet.

“I think (Kelechi) Iheanacho has done brilliantly when he has been called upon, but I’m not sure if he can do it for a full season. So, they might not be challenging for the league, but they need to be finishing in the top six consistently.”
