Coronavirus: Ighalo Speaks On The Situation

The pandemic has put sporting competitions on hold, but the former Nigeria international believes it is the right decision as life comes before football.

Manchester United star, Odion Ighalo, says the world will overcome the Coronavirus epidemic, but supports the decision to suspend the league.

The pandemic which originated from China has killed over 8,000 people, and it has led to the shutdown of activities in several countries.

Football events have also been put on hold as the world find a way to fight this virus. Several leagues in Europe have been suspended, while UEFA Champions League and Europa League games have also been postponed.

While this will have a major effect on this season and subsequent seasons, Ighalo believes it is right football is put on hold.

The former Watford star who joined Manchester United from Shanghai Shenhua in January admits he misses football, but the beautiful game needs to take a break.

“Of course I miss football, like other players and fans. But lives matter, Ighalo told the Sun.

“Staying safe and alive is our biggest game in the world now — and we all have a role to play in it.

“Football has to take a back seat all over the planet at the moment and that is very understandable.

“Coronavirus is affecting all countries, across all continents. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone affected by this pandemic and to the families who have lost loved ones.

“But I know we will beat coronavirus and I urge people to remain positive.

Ighalo is enjoying his time at Old Trafford with four goals in eight matches for Manchester United so far.
