One-time Super Eagles midfielder Edema Fuludu has expressed his dissatisfaction with the complexion of the Nigerian national team three and a half years after the German tactician took over as the head coach.
The former BCC Lions of Gboko ace is convinced that Gernot Rohr has added little or no tactical input to the Super Eagles since he was appointed in August 2016.
Rohr has, within that period, guided Nigeria to qualify seamlessly for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The former Bayern Munich defender also led the three-time African champions to a third-place finish at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
In the 49 games he has handled for the team, Rohr has helped the team avoid defeat in all but nine matches, including in games against Brazil, Cameroon, Ukraine, and Egypt.
But Fuludu, who starred as BCC Lions won the African Cup Winners Cup competition (Mandela Cup) in 1990, is unimpressed with the job Rohr has done so far.
“Rohr has been a very lucky coach; he came in, trying to change the team by getting younger players, and that is what has been able to take him far,” Fuludu told New Nigeria Telegraph.
“We have very talented players now in the team who have the energy and the skills to confront any opponents.
“However, the team still needs a lot of touch from him because we are yet to see a specific pattern in our football.
“We have practically become comeback kings which we showed against the Benin Republic and Lesotho during the last two games we played, but some of us are saying, no, we can’t be struggling against such sides; we are supposed to be the giants of Africa and deal with smaller teams,” he said.
