Nigerians Rally Support For Man United’s New Boy Ighalo

The striker is expected to team up with the Red Devils after agreeing to a loan switch, much to the delight of his countrymen.

The home support has continued to mount for Odion Ighalo after the retired Super Eagles star became the first Nigerian to join the Manchester United senior team.

Manchester United sealed a temporary move for the former Nigeria international on transfer deadline day as a backup to injured England international Marcus Rashford. The Shanghai Shenhua forward will lineup for the Old Trafford giants until the end of the 2019-20 season.

Manchester United fans are divided over the signing of the former Watford man, with some accepting the move as a shrewd move considering the circumstances. In contrast, others are displeased with the choice of Rashford’s replacement.

Nigerian fans are, however, delighted with many looking forward to finally seeing one of their own appear in the famous red colours of the Old Trafford giants.

Many are aware of the exploits of a striker who emerged as the top scorer at the 2019 African Cup of Nations, a tournament that also had Liverpool’s duo of Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah in attendance. Ighalo has also scored 15 goals or more in each of his last four seasons.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter to celebrate Ighalo on his new move.

Across all clubs in his career so far, Ighalo has scored 131 goals from 322 appearances.
