Former Chelsea Star Questions Yobo’s Credentials As Super Eagles Assistant Manger

The appointment of Joseph Yobo as Super Eagles assistant manager continues to generate reactions with a former international the latest person to react to it.

Former Chelsea defender, Celestine Babayaro, has questioned the decision to appoint Yobo as the new assistant manager of Nigeria’s national team.

The former Super Eagles captain was appointed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) as a replacement for Imama Amapakabo who was dismissed following his disappointing spell with the Olympic Eagles and Home-based Eagles.

While Yobo was a wonderful servant for Nigeria during his playing days, Babayaro believes he does not have the qualifications required for his new role.

The former Everton defender does not have a coaching badge but was still given the job by NFF. Although Babayaro likes the idea of appointing a former player as Rohr’s number two, he insists it should have gone to someone who has coaching credentials.

“From my point of view as an ex-player I think he is a good appointment probably done in a wrong way,” the former Newcastle man told BBC Sport.

“I’m not sure if he’s got his badges but if you are trying to appoint someone you make sure they’ve got the right credentials before you appoint them.

“I don’t care if it’s an ex (player) or whoever, make sure you appoint the right person that knows the job.

He added that the NFF should send him to get his coaching badges if he’s their only choice.

“If he hasn’t got his badges, send him somewhere. It takes a few months or less than a year.

“Get the right badges, get the right papers and make him whatever you want to make him.”
