The Heracles striker is hoping for a call up to the Super Eagles squad, and he has revealed there’s been talks between him and Super Eagles officials.
The 24-year-old was born in Belgium, but he is eligible to play for Nigeria through his mother. He declared his intention to play for the Super Eagles last year and has now reiterated the claim.
However, despite having talks with Nigeria, the former Utrecht striker says he has to keep performing at the highest level if he wants to be in Gernot Rohr’s plans.
Dessers is currently the joint top scorer in the Eredivisie, but he will need to maintain the form if he wants to feature for the Super Eagles.
“There’s been communication but I’ve got to keep playing as well as I can for Heracles, and hopefully that will happen soon,” he told BBC Sport.
“I know it’s a strong ambition of mine, but sometimes you need to stay focused and not get distracted as a professional footballer.”
He also added that every member of his family is hoping it will happen soon, but he also needs to keep on delivering at club level.
“Everyone in the family is hoping – and to be involved with Nigeria would be incredibly amazing for my career, but I’ve got to keep proving myself first,” he added.
“To get a chance to stand at the door is a step forward. You start every day hoping for success at club level. If you keep working hard, hopefully you make some life goals come true.”
Nigeria play Sierra Leone in back to back 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in March, and that could see Dessers earn his first call-up with Gernot Rohr expected to name his squad early next month.

Please and please this young man should be given a chance. remember keneth otigba who after carptaining them at u20 level rejected a call up from romania or so while waiting for an invitation from nigeria the rest is histry. giving him()dessers) a chance may just provide a very strong reason for future tammy abrahams and co not to be able to turn their back on us when we need them.
