With Marcus Rashford out for two months, Manchester United are in the market for a new striker, and they have identified two African players with Premier League experience as short term solution.
According to Skysports, the Red Devils are interested in signing one of Odion Ighalo or Islam Slimani on a six-month loan deal.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking for a solution to United’s striking woes with Marcus Rashford currently ruled out for two months. Both Ighalo and Slimani have Premier League experience, although the latter was more of a flop than a hit.
Ighalo is currently at Chinese Super League club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, but he was a hit with Watford during his time in the Premier League. The former Super Eagles star scored 40 goals in 100 appearances for the Hornets before moving to Asia.
Slimani is currently on loan at Monaco from Leicester City and has scored seven goals in 14 appearances for Ligue 1 side this season.
Ighalo currently has two years left on his contract with Shanghai Shenhua but hinted he could leave if the right offer comes in.
Speaking ahead of United’s FA Cup clash against Tranmere Rovers, Solskjaer revealed the club are trying to bring in reinforcement, but he did not give any specific name.
“It’s not going to be a quick fix. And it’s not going to be like eight players in or 10 players in one transfer window,” he said.
“We’ve had one proper transfer window in the summer because the Januarys are difficult, but we are trying to do something now.”
