Nkwocha Snubs Oshoala In POTY Voting But Compares Her To Messi Afterwards

The Nigeria legend did not vote for the Barcelona star in the race for the CAF Women Player of the Year award but says (Oshoala) is the greatest ever.

It has been revealed that four-time CAF Best Women Player award winner and former Nigeria international Perpetua Nkwocha snubbed country woman Asisat Oshoala and voted instead for Ajara Nchout, Tabitha Chawinga, Gabrielle Ouguene as her first, second and third pick respectively. It was a strange decision that could have robbed the former Arsenal star the chance to claim her fourth POTY award and match Nkwocha’s feat.

However, Oshoala, on Wednesday night, was named African Women’s Player of the Year for the fourth time, equalling the record of her compatriot Perpetua Nkwocha. The Barcelona forward garnered 351 votes, 30 more than Cameroonian forward Ajara Nchout and Thembi Kgatlana, who had 247 votes.

In a sudden change of heart, though, Nkwocha took to her Instagram page to congratulate the younger star, comparing her to Barcelona star, Lionel Messi.

“I remember vividly when you were asked in an interview who you looked up to as a young star and you called my name,” Nkwocha wrote on her Instagram page on Wednesday.

“I smiled because I’ve seen you play. Hmmm, what do you do if Messi says he looks up to you?? You just smile. Congratulations Star girl. Make and break the records girl. The world at your feet.”
