He has not played for Liverpool since he joined in 2015, but former Golden Eaglets forward Taiwo Awoniyi is not giving up on his dream of playing for Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Awoniyi joined Liverpool in 2015 from Imperial Academy after impressing at the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, scoring four goals.
But since he signed for the Premier League leaders, he has not kicked a ball for the first team due to work permit issues. As a result, the Illorin born star has been sent on loan to a couple of clubs that include Gent, Royal Excel Mouscron and NEC Nijmegen.
He is currently at Bundesliga side Mainz 05, but Awoniyi plans to return to Anfield when his loan deal expires as he still harbours the hope of playing for Liverpool.
Speaking to Brila.net, Awoniyi revealed he hopes the work permit issue that has stalled his dream of playing for the mighty reds will be resolved, but if it is not, he will have to move on.
“When I joined Liverpool I dreamed to play there and it’s something I have to look forward to,” he told
“Without the work permit, I don’t think I’ll have a chance. But if I don’t get the chance, then I’ll move on and find satisfaction elsewhere, he added.
Awoniyi is finding life difficult in Germany as he has only made just six appearances for Mainz this campaign.
