Former international Christian Obodo has claimed that the current Super Eagles side are still a work in progress, but he expects them to come good.
The former Udinese star believes Gernot’s Rohr side cannot be compared with previous Nigeria teams but admits they are on the verge of doing something great.
The former Fiorentina star said this in an interview with Brila Fm where he was asked to rate Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.
Nigeria have been drawn against Cape Verde, Liberia and Central African Republic (CAR) in the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup.
Obodo believes the team have what it takes to seal progress to the next round, but insists it will not be easy wins for Nigeria in their games.
“The draw will always present its challenges but the most important thing is that players we have now and Coaches aren’t doing bad; our team is good,” Obodo told Brila Fm.
“Every team in Africa is improving, we may not be the same Super Eagles from years ago, that could defeat teams with 5-0, 4-0 scorelines, but this team is growing and I believe in them.”
However, while he understands the challenges facing Nigeria, Obodo urged the fans to support the team when they kick off their qualifying campaign.
“They can do better though, we need to support them and give them the confidence they need, and we will always back them with prayers,” he added.
