Former Real Sociedad Midfielder Advises Super Eagles Defender To Utilise The January Transfer Window

Ex international Mutiu Adepoju has urged Leon Balogun to take advantage of the January transfer window, and move to a new club where he’ll get regular playing time.

The 30-year-old centre-back, who has not tasted Premier League action for Brighton this season, joined the club in 2018 after leaving Bundesliga side FSV Mainz 05.

Since leaving the German club, Mainz 05, Balogun has had a hard time proving his worth in the Premier League. His only appearance this season came in the Carabao Cup against Bristol Rovers on 27 August 2019, a game the team won by 2–1.

His lack of game time at Amex Stadium has cost him his place in the Super Eagles with William Troost-Ekong and Kenneth Omeruo prefered in the defence.

Reacting to Balogun’s situation, Adepoju told Soccernet that Balogun needs to leave Brighton this January if he wants to earn his place back in the Super Eagles squad.

“I still feel worried that Super Eagles defender, Leon Balogun has not been getting regular playing time at Brighton in the Premier League,” Adepoju told Soccernet.ng.

“So far, he has been ignored, and that has affected his place in the Super Eagles as well. The January transfer window may afford him the chance to reaccess himself, and seek for a loan out of the club if he wants to enjoy quality playing time.”
