Barcelona forward Asisat Oshoala has joined the continent’s top football governing body in celebrating the exploits of legendary Super Falcons striker Perpetua Nkwocha.
Former Super Falcons skipper Perpetua Nkwocha dominated African football for more than a decade, helping Nigeria win 5 African Women Cup of Nations titles – the first one in 2002 and the last in 2014.
The goal machine was top scorer of the tournament in an incredible four of those five title triumphs, making her mark as one of the finest players to have ever come out of Nigeria.
Nkwocha’s exploits also saw her claim four African Women’s Footballer of the Year awards in a hugely successful playing career.
In recognition of her great deeds, CAF took out time to extol the virtues of the former Sunnana SK of Sweden forward.
Tweeting out of their official Twitter handle, CAF wrote:
“RECORD HOLDER: Perpetua Nkwocha The Nigerian footballer won the African Women Footballer of the Year award 4⃣ times!
Nkwocha participated in 8 editions of the Total African Women Cup of Nations & helped the Super Falcons win 5 of them!”
Shortly after, Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala responded by acknowledging Nkwocha as a living heroine of the game.
“Legend,” Oshoala replied from her Twitter handle.
It would be recalled that, at just 25, Oshoala has won three African Women’s Footballer of the Year awards and is only one award short of Nkwocha’s total haul.
