Leicester City title hopes have suffered a major blow after it was revealed that Wilfred Ndidi is set to undergo surgery that will keep him out of action until February.
The Foxes currently sit second in the Premier League with Ndidi playing an important role in the surge. The 23-year-old has featured for the Foxes 23 times this season, scoring two goals.
The Super Eagles star has established himself as one of Leicester’s most important players since his arrival from Genk in January 2017.
The Nigerian international acts as a shield for the Foxes backline, while he is also the foundation for their transition from defence to attack.
His absence will be a major blow for Leicester City’s manager Brendan Rodgers. Speaking before his side’s Carabao Cup semi-final clash against Aston Villa, the former Celtic manager confirmed Ndidi took a knock in training and will have to undergo surgery.
“Wilf took a knock in training yesterday, which unfortunately means he might need a slight operation tomorrow. That’ll put him out for a few weeks, but it’s not overly serious, so hopefully, going into February, he’ll be fit and ready to go again.”
Ndidi has proven himself as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. The 23-year-old is the player with most tackles and interceptions in the Premier League this season.
Ndidi will miss games against Southampton, Burnley, West Ham, and the FA Cup clash against Brentford. However, if he does not suffer any setback, he should be back against Chelsea at the beginning of February.
