Weekly Round Up: Iheanacho Returns With A Bang, Osimhen On Target Again, Rohr’s Contract Battle

Great goals, big comebacks, history-making- This week had everything in the store. In a week that had the champions league and also domestic action across Europe, Soccernet.ng brings a round-up of stories that made the headlines last week.

Man City Lose More Ground In Title Race: The defending champions title defence took a further blow as they could only manage a 2-2 draw against Newcastle.

Pep’s team were already nine points behind Liverpool before the clash against the Magpies. However, by the end of the week, the Reds extended their lead to 11 points.

Raheem Sterling had put City in the lead at St James Park before Jetro Willems levelled for Steve Bruce’s side. Kevin De Bruyne’s 82nd minute strike looked to have won it for City, but Jonjo Shelvey’s strike two minutes from time ensured the points were shared.

With Liverpool winning later in the day against Brighton, City’s hope of winning a third title is gradually fading.

Lewandowski Makes History: The Polish striker became the second player after to score four goals against two different teams in Champions League history.

Six years after scoring four times in Dortmund’s 4-1 win over Real Madrid, the 31-year old repeated the trick in Bayern’s 6-0 win over Red Star Belgrade.

But what made Lewandowski’s feat more incredible is that the four goals all came in the space of 14 minutes, and that makes it the fastest four-goal haul in champions league history.

Rohr vs NFF Battle: The ongoing ugly situation between the Nigerian Football Federation and Super Eagles technical adviser Gernot Rohr does not look like ending soon.

This comes after the NFF released a statement warning Rohr of his conduct. It came after the German tactician revealed in an interview that the NFF still owe him about $100,000, but it did not sit well with Nigeria’s football governing body.

Osimhen and Maja Set Ligue 1 On Fire: The Nigerian internationals were on target for their respective clubs in Ligue 1. In what was his second start of the season, Josh Maja scored Bordeaux goal in their 1-1 draw against Reims.  It was Maja’s second goal of the campaign.

He was not the only Nigerian on target as Osimhen also scored the lone goal in Lille’s 1-0 win over Dijon. The 20-year-old who has been a revelation since he joined Les Douges scored from the penalty spot minutes before half-time to secure the maximum points for Lille.

Iheanacho Back With A Bang: Aside from substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup, Iheanacho has not tasted action with Leicester City until Sunday. The 22-year-old was brought on for his first Premier League appearance of the season in the Foxes 2-1 win over Everton.

And he proved to be the hero of the day as he set up Vardy’s equalizer before winning at the death with a sumptuous finish.
