One year after rupturing his Achilles tendon, Nigeria international and former Lazio star Ogenyi Eddy Onazi was named in the Trabzonspor squad that thrashed Antalyaspor 3-1 on Sunday in the Turkish Super Liga.
Super Eagles midfield ace Eddy Ogenyi Onazi finally made his anticipated return to the Trabzonspor first team following his injury setback, though he was on the bench for the entire 90 minutes.
The injury – suffered two days to Christmas last year in a 4-1 defeat of Rizespor – saw him missed all the 2019 matches for Nigeria, especially the Africa Cup of Nations event in Egypt where the Super Eagles picked up a bronze medal.
Onazi, who joined Trabzonspor in 2016 from Lazio for €5 million, was a key member of the Nigeria team that won the 2013 AFCON tournament in South Africa.
Meanwhile, former Super Eagles skipper John Obi Mikel played the entire duration of the encounter as three first half goals from Alexander Sorloth, Anthony Nwakaeme and Yusuf Sari lifted Trabzonspor past their hosts at the Antalya Stadium.
Nigeria international Nwakaeme grabbed the second goal for the visitors in the 25th minute after Celustka had canceled out Sorloth’s 3rd minute opener.
On the stroke of halftime, Yusuf Sari then made sure of the points for Unal Karaman’s men as Trabzonspor rose to second on the Liga table, four points behind league leaders Sivasspor.
